Williamsport Soccer Complex - On what was a beautiful fall day in central Pennsylvania, the Williamsport Millionaires boys' soccer team played their final home game of the regular season Saturday afternoon.  Williamsport is coming off of two consecutive wins from earlier in the week, but Milton is having a great year and has already racked up ten wins themselves.

"We knew they have talent and speed.  We wanted our guys to play with a lot of intensity and set the tone early," commented coach Kaar after the game.  The Millionaires immediately pressured Milton's midfielders into a turnover in their half and then Williamsport's midfielders and forwards charged towards the box, making various runs off the ball which occupied many Milton defenders.  Jimmy Pombor, a junior, wasted little time and exploited an opening near the eighteen and ripped a shot into the upper corner for an early lead.  All of this action occurred in just the first minute and a half of the game.  With the Millionaires up a goal, they settled down a little bit, but they were still in control and dictated the pace of play for the rest of the half.  Midway through the first half, Pombor crafted his way into space and delivered a cross to senior Hemberth Pena-Vasquez, who buried his shot to take a two-goal advantage into the break.

Coach Kaar stated, "Having a two-goal lead at the break is nice, but we didn't want the guys to sit back and allow Milton to gain any momentum.  We stressed how important it was to maintain the high intensity for the first ten minutes of the second half."  Pombor and his fellow middies, along with the forwards, took that message to heart as Williamsport took the kick-off and used all of thirty-four seconds to score a goal.  Senior Tyler Fausnaught sent a great ball forward to where Pombor was able to get on the end of it and slide a pass in to Pena-Vasquez who calmly slipped a shot into the side netting.  The Milton players looked dejected to say the least.

The Black Panthers didn't give up, however.  Midway through the second half, a cross was sent in from the left side and even though the Williamsport defender had good positioning, the Milton midfielder was able to deflect it past the keeper for a goal of their own.  As Milton began to pick up their energy though, the Millionaires again exploited the Milton defense.  Pena-Vasquez received the outlet pass near midfield and the Williamsport had another great counter attack.  Two defenders converged on Pena-Vasquez, but he placed the ball into space behind, where Pombor collected the pass and easily eluded the Black Panther keeper to put the Millionaires up four goals to one.

The final Williamsport score came from freshman Cole Wheeler when he received a pass at his feet inside the box and blasted it by the outstretched hands of the diving keeper.

Williamsport ends its regular season with a seven and five record.  They now await the start of the AAAA, District 2-4 playoffs, which are scheduled to begin November 2nd.
