Millionaire Tennis Team Sweeps Selinsgrove 5-0

After waiting almost two years to play tennis, the Williamsport Boys’ Tennis Team won their season opener with a 5-0 sweep over Selinsgrove.  Junior Kyle Shuler returns to play at number 1 singles with a completely different varsity team from two years ago; Shuler won 6-2, 6-3.  Senior Alex played his first high school tennis match today and earned a 6-3, 6-2 win at the second singles position.  Sophomore Zach Lake, new to the tennis team, stepped into the number 3 singles spot, and picked up his first varsity win 6-4, 6-2.

The varsity doubles pairs garnered two more wins for the team.  Sophomores Evan Beiter and Owen Kaar fought for three sets, but were victorious in their first high school tennis match, winning 6-1, 5-7, 6-3.  Senior H. Pena-Vasquez and junior Abheet Sarker rolled through two sets 6-0, 6-4 in their first match-up.

For the coaches, there’s an excitement this year having such a large turnout of strong players as the boys’ high school tennis season resumes.  “For me, I’m just happy these kids are out playing on the courts.  For some of the kids, their training in the off-season at the Tennis Center has made all the difference,” said Coach John Dorner.  “We look forward to seeing our kids play and get better and better,” added Dorner.
