Millionaires Shut Out Wildcats

Williamsport Soccer Complex - Looking to improve their record after last Thursday's tough league loss at Middleburg, the Williamsport Millionaires boys' soccer team hosted the Mifflinburg Wildcats on Monday afternoon.  The home team recorded sixteen shots on goal on their way to a 2-0 league win.  While their offense rocketed double digit shots on the Wildcat keeper, it was their midfield and defense that allowed only two shots, which senior keeper Elliott Wannop collected easily.

"I thought we did a good job of maintaining possession and firing off shots, but we need to improve in regards to finishing those opportunities and coming away with goals," noted coach Kaar after the game.  The Millionaires controlled the ball and worked it deep into the Mifflinburg defensive end of the pitch all game.  Senior Thomas Harper fired a perfect cross into the mix late in the first half where junior Jimmy Pombor volleyed the pass into the back of the net for a one goal advantage going into the break.

In the second half, Williamsport started right where they left off by possessing the ball and working it around the pitch and from side to side.  Kaar commented, "Mifflinburg always does a decent job of compacting their defense within the final twenty yards and while we were able to have some good looks at the goal, we didn't capitalize on those chances.  We let them hang around and gain some confidence by simply keeping us off the scoreboard." Freshmen Angelo Casas and Connor Poole used great runs to continue to pressure the defensive line of Mifflinburg, while Jimmy Pombor, Hemberth Pena-Vasquez, and the Williamsport midfielders kept peppering the net with shots.  The Millionaires got their second goal when Connor Poole drove a corner kick in to the box where a leaping Pombor headed it home.  The final whistle blew as Williamsport tallied another league win.

The Millionaires are back in action on Wednesday when they travel to battle the undefeated Lewisburg Green Dragons.
