Milford, PA - The Williamsport Boys Soccer team won the District 2-4 AAAA Championship Friday night as they upended the #1 seed Delaware Valley on the Warriors home pitch.  The Millionaires opened the scoring in the first half when junior Jimmy Pombor received a quick outlet pass down the sideline and zipped past two Delaware Valley defenders.  Pombor's cross came into the box low and hard, allowing Hemberth Pena-Vasquez to step over it for teammate Angelo Casas to bury in the back of the net.  The top seeded Warriors responded quickly scoring the equalizer less than ten minutes later.  The teams went into the break even with one goal apiece.

Williamsport's midfielders (Thomas Harper, Owen Kaar, Zach Lake, Kaleb McKeon, Jimmy Pombor, and Connor Poole) seemed to start the second half with more intensity as they maintained much of the possession and began applying immediate pressure upon the Delaware Valley back line and keeper.  Eight minutes into the second half, Connor Poole delivered a cross to the chest of Jimmy Pombor just outside of the eighteen-yard line.  Pombor then instantly laid off a pass for Pena-Vasquez who blasted his shot past the Warrior keeper to give Williamsport a one goal lead.  With most of the second half still to play, the Millionaires continued to cause issues for the Warrior midfielders and defenders with their constant off-ball runs as well as by moving the ball quickly around the pitch.  Then, with just over thirteen minutes remaining, Thomas Harper and Pombor worked a quick combination of passes along the sideline to elude Delaware Valley's midfielders.  Pombor attracted the attention of three defenders and he was able to slide a pass into the path of Pena-Vasquez who beat the Warrior keeper to extend Williamsport's lead by two goals.

Delaware Valley began playing with a sense of urgency, but the Williamsport defensive group, led by Tyler Fausnaught, and goalie Elliott Wannop (11 saves) limited the number of quality opportunities the Warriors were able to have.

This marks the fourth District Championship in the last five years for the Williamsport boys.  Williamsport awaits the champion from District 3 for a quarterfinal matchup in the Pennsylvania State tournament.
