Millionaires Win: 41 - 27
Williamsport wrestling tops Milton on the road 41-27 JAN 18, 2023 JIMMY DEROGATIS Sports reporter jderogatis@sungazette.com RALPH WILSON/Sun-Gazette Correspondent Williamsport's Colin Nasdeo wrestles Milton's Ty Locke at 107 pounds during a high school wrestling match on Tuesday at Milton. MILTON — Williamsport wrestlers Bryson Delker, Collin Nasdeo, Cael Nasdeo and Marissa Rumsey all put on outstanding performances at Milton on Tuesday night. It helped the Millionaires have another successful outing as Williamsport defeated the Black Panthers, 41-27. The evening’s most enthusiastic crowd-pleasers were Rumsey and Delker’s contests. Delker’s match served as the catalyst for Williamsport’s fire, which the Panthers could eventually do nothing to put out. The Williamsport audience was into it all night, but as the Delkers match ended, they only became louder and more intense. Delker’s match was a dogfight at 285 pounds, and late in the match, he showed a newfound intensity that was very noticeable. His will to win was on full display as he outworked Milton’s Paul Rohland for a fall victory in 5 minutes, 37 seconds. “I believe we engaged in combat for one another, and I’m quite pleased with that,” Williamsport coach Brian Nasdeo said. said. RALPH WILSON/Sun-Gazette Correspondent Williamsport's Colin Nasdeo wrestles Milton's Ty Locke at 107 pounds during a high school wrestling match on Tuesday at Milton. Following the win Nasdeo talked about the resiliency he saw in Delker’s match this night. “No real improvement from anyone that I saw, but I thought Bryson Delker did a very nice job in his match and I thought he dug deep, and got it done,” Nasdeo said. Rumsey, like most of the Millionaire’s matches on this night, started off a tad bit slowly, which was the case for Rumsey in this match. However, she got stronger as the match went on like she usually does. “I think this year has been going well, and I’m just glad to be contributing to the results. I felt good out there and I knew I had it in me,” Rumsey said. Rumsey was able to slip away from the grips of her opponent and sweep low underneath him and take him down for the pin and the victory. Rumsey’s flexibility and agility helped her secure the win at 133 by pinning Tyler Geiswite in 3:27. RALPH WILSON/Sun-Gazette Correspondent Williamsport's Luke Segraves wrestles Milton's Tyler Stokes at 114 pounds during a high school wrestling match on Tuesday at Milton. “Yeah I had fun out there and the win I think I was able to come out and show what I can do,” Rumsey said. Rumsey’s fighting background, wrestling IQ and finesse movements helped her gain the advantage and upper hand late in this fight to gain the win over Milton. “It was a difficult match. I was thinking just don’t give up and don’t let him score that many points on me,” she added. “He (Coach Nasdeo) was just telling me good job, you got this, keep working and stand your ground,” Rumsey said after her match. “And she (Lilly) was just telling me good job and she was happy for me.” Coach Nasdeo was also very pleased with how Rumsey wrestled against Milton and hoped she can ride that wave of momentum into her next match. RALPH WILSON/Sun-Gazette Correspondent Williamsport's Jack Heller wrestles Milton's Abby Moser at 121 pounds during a high school wrestling match on Tuesday at Milton. “You know Marrissa, she’s been needing a big win like that against the boys, and can continue on that path, but yeah I thought we battled low out there,” Nasdeo said. “At 107 and 121, you know it went really well, but Bryson really got the fire started for us there, well maybe Riq (Burkes)? So those guys all did good.” At 107, Collin Nasdeo defeated Ty Locke via decision, 4-2, and Burkes won at 215 with a 76-second fall over Trey Locke. Milton began the dual with a fall victory in 1:33 at 145 by Alex DeHart over Tadd Ungard. Milton won the next two bouts at 172 and 189 by Aiden Keiser and Cale Bastian with falls in 2:33 and 54 seconds, respectively, before things shifted for Williamsport. That was sparked by Burkes at 215. RALPH WILSON/Sun-Gazette Correspondent Williamsport's Cael Nasdeo wrestles Milton's Chase Mitch at 127 pounds during a high school wrestling match on Tuesday at Milton. Williamsport also got wins at 114 from Luke Seagraves via tech fall, Jack Heller at 120 via decision and Cael Nasdeo at 127 over Chase Mitch with a fall in 60 seconds. Williamsport’s schedule has some tough opponents coming up in Altoona and Selinsgrove. Although Brian Nasdeo has been pleased with the way his wrestlers have been performing, there is always still room for improvement for the Millionaires as the season begins to wind down. “We just have to keep getting better as a team, keep improving, and we have to just keep wrestling to our potential and we have been, we wrestled much much better today than we have,” coach Nasdeo said. Of the wrestlers suiting up each match there are several that Coach Nasdeo believes will make a splash at Hershey this year. “Cael Nasdeo, Carter Weaver, Collin/Bob Nasdeo, Bryson I mean yeah we have some guys that can go pretty far,” coach Nasdeo said. “I would be surprised if we didn’t have eight, nine guys go to regionals and then we’ll see what happens and go from there.” RALPH WILSON/Sun-Gazette Correspondent Williamsport's Marissa Rumsey wrestles Milton's Tyler Geiswite at 133 pounds during a high school wrestling match on Tuesday at Milton. “To make team states and go to districts this year, I mean that’s always our goal, so we’re not veering off from that,” coach Nasdeo added.
