After having a week off, the Williamsport boys' soccer team was back in action Wednesday night when they traveled to Shamokin.  While the first half was scoreless, the Millionaires tallied five unanswered goals in the second half for the decisive win.   Tarell Brown put Williamsport on the board first less than four minutes into the second half when he received a long pass from Connor Poole and made a move to beat the keeper for the score.  Six minutes later, Dumfer Adjei put one in the back of the net with the assist from Evan Brittain.  Senior Calder Diakite hit a one timer from Connor Poole making it a three-goal lead.  Senior Quentin Mazzante got into the scoring action when he took a pass from Charlie Plummer and tallied another one for the Millionaires.  Finally, Brown earned a brace when he tallied his second goal of the night, again receiving the pass from Poole.   The JV team won as well with a 3-0 final score.  Adjei, Brayden Jarrett, and Isaac Balza netted goals for Williamsport.   The boys are back in action Saturday afternoon when they travel north to battle against Athens.  The next home game is Monday, October 9th at 7:00 against Lewisburg.  It is our Senior Night game, so please come out, be rowdy, and support the guys.

Millionaires Win: 3.00 - 2.00
The boys' soccer team improved to 3-2 on the year as they beat Midd-West Tuesday afternoon by a final score of 3-2. Williamsport wasn't getting many calls to go their way in the first half and found themselves down two goals.  With under a minute left, senior captain Connor Poole lobbed a ball over the back line of the Mustangs and senior forward Angelo Casas used his speed and put the ball in the back of the net to cut the deficit to a goal going into halftime.   In the second half, Williamsport immediately put Midd-West under a great deal of pressure and after the ball being knocked around inside the box for a while, Casas again was able to sneak the equalizer in the back of the net.  The hometown boys continued to apply pressure all over the pitch which allowed some freedom for Quentin Mazzante and Poole in the midfield.  With just over five minutes remaining in the game, Poole was fouled and Williamsport was given a free kick from about 25 yards out.  Connor Poole blasted home the game winner past a sprawled-out Mustangs keeper for the go-ahead goal.  After that, Williamsport's keeper, Sam Radulski, and the back line of the Ungard brothers (Tadd and Brayden) and Teigen Staver kept the Midd-West attack from getting any great looks for the tie.   Williamsport opens up league play Thursday night as they host an undefeated Central Mountain team.

Millionaires Win: 4.00 - 0.00
Connor Poole records hat trick as Williamsport boys defeat Mifflin County 4-0 SEP 2, 2023 JON GERARDI Sports Editor jgerardi@sungazette.com As Williamsport’s players walked off the field following the horn for halftime, the Millionaires had just a one-goal lead against Mifflin County. So when the team got together and talked during its halftime break, the coaches and captains all talked to the team, and the message was simple: intensity. The Millionaires wanted to come out in the second half fired up and with intensity and get something working offensively early. That talked more than sparked the team. It took just 40 seconds into the second half for Williamsport to strike when Tarell Brown rifled a shot to put the Millionaires up by two and from there, things kept rolling. It resulted in Williamsport cruising past Mifflin County, 4-0, to improve to 2-0 on the year. “Coaches talked, captains talked. Some of it is just having that confidence in themselves. They’ve proven it in training sessions and scrimmages and now it’s just coming out and putting it into practice during games. But we’re very pleased wtih the intensity level,” Williamsport coach Lee Kaar said. “It kind of fell off the last seven, eight minutes there, but up four, we had a plethora of guys in.” Calder Diakite fed Brown a pass inside the 18 and Brown sent it to the right post to give the Millionaires a 2-0 lead. Fourteen minutes later, Williamsport struck again when Connor Poole was awarded a penalty kick and scored as he snuck it inside the left post past a diving Mifflin County goalie. “They didn’t have any real threatening possessions in the first half, but we stressed at halftime ‘hey we have to come out in the second half with a little bit more fire and intensity than we did in the beginning of the game,'” Kaar said. “I was very pleased with the second half. First half, not so much, but we talked about things we wanted to work on. Seeing more combinations not just try to bomb it over the top. More combinations, finding feet and being very aggressive in our offensive third.” The Millionaires dominated Mifflin County in both halves, but especially the final 40 minutes in which Williamsport rifled nine shots — seven on goal — and never let Mifflin County counter. The Huskies had just three shots the entire game, only one of which was on goal. And none of Mifflin County’s three attempted shots were from inside the 18 as Williamsport forced the Huskies to fire from 20 yards or deeper. Williamsport scored its final goal of the game with 17:28 to play when Pool rifled a shot from outside the 18 to the far right post for a 4-0 lead. It was also Poole’s third goal of the game as he scored Willliamsport’s first goal 14 minutes into the game. “One goal was ugly, but we’ll take those. I don’t care how pretty it is,” Kaar said with a laugh. “One PK and his third goal was pretty. He’s a kid that has a very powerful leg and he doesn’t need to really wind up like many others do. He can pop it from 30 and out.” Williamsport had chances to increase its lead, but unlucky bounces prevented a few goals. in the first half with 7:33 remaining, Brown got inside of the 18 and took a shot to the left post past Mifflin County goalie Joel Beamer. The ball was inches from being a goal when a Mifflin County defender cleared it at the last possible moment to keep it a 1-0 game prior to halftime. And with 8:04 to play, it was Brayden Ungard who had a perfect header from outside of the 6-yard box that landed behind Beamer, but rolled parallel to the goal line and didn’t go in, keeping it a 4-0 Millionaires game. Williamsport 4, Mifflin County 0 W-Connor Poole, 26:28. W-Tarell Brown (Calder Diakite), 39:20. W-Poole (penalty kick), 25:16. WW-Poole, 17:28. Shots: MC 1, W 10. Corners: MC 1, W 6. Saves: MC 5 (Joel Beamer), W 1 (Sam Radulski). Records: Mifflin County (0-2), Williamsport (2-0).

Millionaires Win: 4.00 - 3.00
The boys soccer team opened their season with a win on the road against Mifflinburg on Tuesday.  The Millionaires got on the scoreboard in the first minute when Connor Poole, a senior captain, put the direct kick in the far side netting.  The Wildcats quickly countered as they were able to get in behind our defense and a penalty kick was then awarded to Mifflinburg after some shoulder-to-shoulder contact.  Mifflinburg quickly took the lead when another ball got through and the Millionaire keeper, Sam Radulski, played aggressively, but unfortunately was called for a foul and Mifflinburg converted their second penalty kick in the half.  Williamsport was able to use their speed to their advantage as both Angelo Casas and Evan Brittain were poorly tackled in the box, leading to Connor Poole converting a penalty kick to even the score.   In the second half, Williamsport played with a little bit more composure and freshman Spencer Kaar received a pass from Dumfer Abjei-Frinpong just outside the box and popped a shot in the back of the net for a 3-2 lead.  With under ten minutes, however, Mifflinburg evened the score.   Williamsport began the overtime period aggressively and created three scoring opportunities within the first minute.  Finally, after three quick corner kicks, Connor Poole sent in a cross where senior Soliman Elgabry got free and blasted the game winner into the back of the net.   The Millionaires are 1-0 and play again Saturday morning when Mifflin County visits our Williamsport Soccer Complex at 11:00 a.m.
